Clinical Chemistry [Jun. 17th, 2009|05:33 am]
Medical Technologists
Interesting site.  Let's see how well this works for current lab questions...

For those of you who work in Clinical Chemistry, do you perform QC on your therapeutic drugs every day, or on an "as-needed" basis?  Also, if you respond, would you also let me know what size hospital you are in?  Thanks.

It would seem a waste to run QC every day on an assay that you only run 3 or 4 times a month.

Thanks for your responses.

We run QC on most of our drug monitoring. The two we don't are tobramycin and theophylline. But our other drugs we get pretty often.

I agree that for assays that you don't get very often, QC should be run on an as need basis.

I used to work for a 300 bed hospital with several outpatient clinics. We would run QC on the drugs that we were likely to get that day (some varied by day of the week or month, depending on which clinics were going that day) and the rest were on an as needed basis.

We run everything twice a day, but we're nearly 500 beds and our therapeutics get run in a specific toxicology department.

we run qc for almost all of our therapeutic drug assays but for those which are not often requested,we only run as needed..we are a 350 bed capacity facility in saudi arabia.
